As you enjoyed the last official summer weekend at the beach, at the mall or at the movies, you probably did not pay attention to the low-wage workers who took your ticket stub, served your burger and fries, or sold you the cotton candy on the boardwalk. For them, Labor Day was like any other weekend of long hours and little pay.

At least a quarter of American workers are working hard but are still struggling to make ends meet. I know this because I am one of them. And I know many others through the Witnesses to Hunger program – a growing group of parents who speak out as the true experts on hunger and poverty in America.
