What comes after the GOP tax cuts?

December 6, 2017

President Trump and some in Congress have rushed to say that once they enact their tax plan, they will move to cut vital programs like Medicaid, SNAP/food stamps, and aid for people with disabilities. As CHN’s Executive Director Deborah Weinstein said in a recent statement following the tax bills passed by the Senate and House, “Senator Rubio did not wait until the ink was dry on the Senate tax bill to call for cuts to Medicare and Social Security. But services of all kinds will be hit: health care, education, road maintenance, housing assistance, child care, protection against epidemics and environmental damage, Meals on Wheels, and much more. Low- and middle-income families will in 2027 pay higher taxes and lose services; low-income families with children will lose the most.”

Not convinced that the tax cut bill being rammed through Congress will be followed by damaging cuts? Check out this video put together by our friends at the Center for American Progress to hear it from GOP leaders themselves:

Tell Congress: #HandsOff these vital programs, and #NotOnePenny for tax cuts for the rich and corporations.

I have put into Medicare since I was 16 and now I am 63. My Mom is 87 years old and still works to afford her medications. This is a disgrace. Cuts in Medicare is terrible. Why not protect the people who have given into it their whole lives. Many people do not participate in the plan for that long and take the benefits. Please advocate for the hard workers in our country. !!!!
