SUMMARY:Webinar: Project 2025’s Threats to Human Needs Programs
DESCRIPTION:You’ve probably heard about Project 2025 – which produced a 900+-page compendium of extremist proposals put out by the right-wing Heritage Foundation (although the head of the project left the Heritage Foundation after Project 2025 proved intensely unpopular). So why should you know about these plans? Because they have been developed by many with connections to the former Trump Administration and are similar to certain proposals before Congress now. Whoever wins the election\, these proposals to shrink human needs programs may emerge – and we have to be ready. \nDuring this webinar\, you’ll learn about Project 2025 proposals to limit Medicaid and other health programs and to eliminate education and early childhood programs as well as limiting access to free school meals. You’ll also learn about efforts to politicize the federal workforce and limit protections for voters and consumers and against discrimination. And very important – you’ll hear about public opinion research showing just how unpopular these proposals are\, and how that can strengthen our advocacy for meeting human needs and for basic justice. \nWatch a recording of it here. \nList of speakers: \n\nJulie Tippens\, Director of the Legislative\, Political and Mobilization Department\, American Federation of Government Employees\nNatasha Murphy\, Director\, Health Policy\, Center for American Progress\nLily Klam\, Director\, Education Policy\, First Focus on Children\nMeeta Anand\, Senior Director\, Census and Data Equity\, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights\nBryan Bennett\, Navigator Research & Senior Director of Polling & Analytics at The Hub Project\nDeborah Weinstein\, Executive Director\, Coalition on Human Needs\, Moderator

SUMMARY:Webinar: How to Use Upcoming Poverty\, Income\, and Health Insurance Data
DESCRIPTION:In an election year\, it’s especially important to assess where we’ve made progress\, and what’s held us back. \nPlease join us on Thursday\, September 5th\, at 1 pm ET\, for a webinar to prepare you for the annual Census Bureau release of state and local poverty\, income\, and health insurance data. \nThe Census Bureau will release national poverty\, income\, and health insurance data on September 10\, followed by state and local data on these and many other topics from the American Community Survey on September 12. \nEvery year\, it’s important to understand income and health insurance trends – but it’s especially important now\, because the nation experienced a dramatic reduction in child poverty as a result of the 2021 Child Tax Credit\, only to see poverty surge after the CTC was allowed to expire. What has happened since? Have the Biden Administration’s vigorous efforts to promote Affordable Care Act health insurance\, along with more generous premium tax credits\, resulted in fewer uninsured people? \nWe’ll help you get ready to find and use the information coming out starting September 10 – with insightful analyses about poverty and health coverage\, and practical instructions on how to navigate the Census Bureau’s website – so you can get the state/local data you need\, and know how to find breakdowns by age\, race\, and ethnicity\, and how to show trends over time. \nList of speakers: \n\nChristopher Wimer\, Director of the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at the Columbia University School of Social Work\nStan Dorn\, Director\, Health Policy Project\, UnidosUS -Deborah Weinstein\, Executive Director\, Coalition on Human Needs\nEllen Teller\, Chief Government Affairs Officer\, Food Research and Action Center (FRAC)\, Moderator\n\nIf you are interested in the webinar but cannot join us\, please register anyway. All registrants will receive the recording\, slides\, and follow-up information. We welcome you to forward this to other advocates who may be interested.
