Poverty and Progress: The State of Being Poor and New Threats Ahead

CHN is working with state partner organizations to prepare and release state poverty reports using data from the 2016 American Community Survey published by the Census Bureau in September 2017. The reports highlight the drop in poverty rates in recent years, and compares poverty and other measures in 2016 to  2007, before the Great Recession. They also highlight the devastating impact that cuts in the budget, tax cut proposals, and other threats ahead from Congress and the Trump administration could have on low- and middle-income Americans.

We urge organizations and individuals share the data, including targeting members of Congress in each state and your local media, by using our social media toolkit and infographics created for each state. Additional reports and tools will be added to this page as they are released.
