This Privacy Policy applies only to information collected online through the Website.

This Privacy Policy does not describe the ways in which we may collect or use information obtained offline or through any means other than our Website.

This Privacy Policy also does not apply to websites you visit by clicking a link on our Website, such as our member organizations’ websites, social media websites, or third-party payment processors. When you click to third-party sites, CHN is not responsible for, and has no control over, the information collected or privacy practices of that site. It is important that you review and understand the privacy policies posted on any linked sites you visit before volunteering any of your personal information.

How we collect information

We collect information in different ways when you use our Website. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.

Information we collect automatically. We collect certain information automatically when you interact with our Website. Examples of such information we collect include:

Data You Provide on the Website.

Personal Information. We ask for basic information such as your name and email address to take certain actions with CHN or to participate in CHN events. For example, we ask for personal information when you sign up for a webinar, endorse an advocacy letter, or subscribe to CHN’s mailing list.

You do not have to provide any personal information on our Website unless you choose to do so, but this information may be necessary to for you to take action with CHN.

Financial Information. We ask for financial information, such as your credit card number, as well as other personal information when you donate to CHN through the Website. We use a secure server for processing donations.  We do not have access to your full credit card number, but can view your billing address, email, phone, and occupation/employer.  CHN does not retain, share, or store this information, nor do we use such personally identifiable financial information for any secondary purposes. This information is retained and stored by our third-party payment processor in accordance with their privacy policy.

We will NEVER ask for your credit card number through email or for your social security number.

Emails. When you send an email or other communication to us, we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your request, or improve services.

How we use the data we collect

We may use the information we collect to:

  • Efficiently and effectively advance CHN’s goals and mission;
  • Communicate with you about our activities and offerings through email, unless you opt-out from receiving such messages;
  • Update you on actions you have taken on the Website;
  • Evaluate and respond to your inquiries and submissions, and provide you with customer support;
  • Notify you of changes to the Website;

We do not share your personal information without your consent except as described below and elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.  We may, however, share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

With member organizations We may, in certain instances, share your personal information with member organizations, solely in order for member organizations to advance their goals and missions, and for no other purpose, with your consent. Member organizations’ own data collection and sharing practices are governed by their privacy policies, not this Privacy Policy.

With Vendors. We may share personal information with companies or individuals we hire to provide services or perform business functions on our behalf (such as print, mail, or email vendors; web hosting vendors; and consultants) because these vendors need access to the personal information to perform the functions we have requested of them. These vendors are contractually required to treat any personal information we provide as confidential, and to use the personal information only to provide the services we have requested they perform on our behalf.

Pursuant to Legal Requirements. We may disclose your personal information (1) if we believe in good faith we are required to do so by law, such as in response to a court order, subpoena, or similar investigative demand; (2) as we deem appropriate or necessary in response to requests for cooperation from a law enforcement agency, taxation authority, or other government agency; and (3) as otherwise required by law.

Applicability of U.S. Law. CHN is based in the United States, is directed to U.S. residents, and processes and stores information in the U.S. If you are located outside of the U.S., we and our service providers may transfer your information to, or store or access your information in, jurisdictions that may not provide equivalent levels of data protection as your home jurisdiction.
