Celebrate these heroes

July 13, 2017

On Tuesday, July 25, at 5:30pm, the Coalition on Human Needs will host our Human Needs Hero reception in Washington, DC. This is our only fundraiser of the year, and your support enables CHN to provide resources such as the Voices for Human Needs blog you are reading right now.

This year CHN is pleased and proud to be honoring the National Immigration Law Center and UnidosUS (formerly the National Council of La Raza) as our Human Needs Heroes. NILC’s tireless advocacy defending and advancing the rights of low-income immigrants has made them invaluable in the protection of our vulnerable neighbors. For the past 38 years, NILC has won landmark legal decisions protecting fundamental rights and advancing policies that reinforce and promote equality, opportunity, and justice. Since its founding in 1968, UnidosUS has worked to protect and defend the civil rights of Latinos and promote their economic advancement through education, tax credits for working families, housing, access to health care and other benefits. They played a key role in successfully advocating for legal status for young immigrants who entered this country illegally (the “Dreamers”) and are fighting for immigration reform.

When so many of our neighbors are under threat of deportation and family break-up, it is important – and a privilege – for the human needs community to stand with immigrants and the groups that serve them. Both NILC and UnidosUS have remained vigilant this year against any attempts to limit the civil rights of immigrants, and both are active and most valued members of the Coalition on Human Needs.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the amazing work of both of these progressive leaders. By honoring UnidosUS and NILC, we continue our tradition of bringing our community together in celebrating our field’s new and experienced advocates. Whether or not you can attend the event, we hope you will consider becoming a sponsor of the reception. Sponsorship for CHN’s sole fundraising event each year honors true Human Needs Heroes and helps us to carry out our work promoting economic opportunity and security for all. In the current political climate, our work is more important than ever, and we are grateful for your support.

Sponsors will be listed in invitations and the event’s program, and will have ad space in the program. Sponsorship will also allow you to bring a number of guests from your organization. Please let us know whether you or your organization can sponsor by Wednesday, July 19. And if you can’t sponsor, please consider buying tickets and/or putting a couple of lines in the program to celebrate our honorees. To sponsor or for more information, please contact Katherine Hartlage at khartlage@chn.org, or just print and fill out this form. All donations will go to support the Coalition on Human Needs. Tickets and sponsorship may be paid for with our online payment form.

Not in the DC area or just can’t make the event? You can still become a sponsor or make a donation and get lines in the program to honor the work of NILC and UnidosUS.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you on July 25!
