The Coalition on Human Needs is proud to be one of nine civil rights and health equity organizations warning that record cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), combined with mountains of new bureaucratic red tape, could drive historic health coverage losses in the years ahead.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, nearly 15 million people will become uninsured by 2034 because of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” and the expiration of ACA tax credits. The CBO also projects that 60% of those newly uninsured will come from communities of color.

In response, the Coalition on Human Needs joined the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum, the NAACP, the National Council of Negro Women, the National Urban League, the Southern Poverty Law Center, UnidosUS, Community Catalyst, and Families USA to release Seamless, Accountable and Fair: A Civil Rights Agenda for Reconstructing Insurance Affordability Programs.

The report calls on lawmakers and federal agencies to rebuild insurance affordability programs so that no one is denied health insurance because of race, ethnicity, or paperwork burdens that are unmanageable for hard-working, under-resourced families.
