Editor’s note: Deborah Weinstein, Executive Director, Coalition on Human Needs, issued the following statement on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 in response to the passing of Karen Hobert Flynn:

“All of us at the Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) are deeply saddened at the passing of Karen Hobert Flynn, President of Common Cause.  She was a tireless fighter for democracy.  From her role as an architect of Connecticut’s ground-breaking public finance system, praised by Connecticut’s current Governor Ned Lamont, to her unflagging efforts to protect the right to vote in the 2022 elections, Karen was a key champion of people without money and the influence it buys to be heard through their vote.  CHN has directly benefited from the work she led, helping us to encourage voting in communities of people with low incomes.  We are so grateful; Karen Hobert Flynn will be missed.”
