Residents of the city of Baltimore have now endured days of racist tweets from President Trump attacking their popular congressman, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), and their city, which Trump called a “rodent-infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”

There has been a lot of comment about President Trump’s eager willingness to attack an American city and to show again and again that he wants to be President of only some of the people. But less has been said about what his Administration has done, or proposes to do, in Baltimore and in other cities with high levels of poverty.

CHN this week released an analysis detailing just what effect the Trump Administration is having (or will have, if it has its way) on Baltimore as well as other urban areas in the U.S. We examined a number of areas: housing, wages, nutrition assistance, education, health care, infrastructure, and consumer protections across a number of areas, including racial discrimination in housing, the home mortgage market, predatory and discriminatory lending, and fraudulent student loan practices.

The President must be held accountable for his racist and offensive tweets. It is also important to understand – and to hold the President accountable – for the hugely detrimental impact his policies are having, and would have, on Baltimore and on other major cities in the U.S.

The President not only attacks Baltimore. He is trying to make things worse.
