CHN opposes DHS reconciliation bill + $350 million for enhanced ICE enforcement

The Coalition on Human Needs sent the following letter to every Senate office to sound the alarm on a new provision (Section 202(9)) added to the reconciliation package that provides $350 million for ICE enforcement activities in jurisdictions (e.g. sanctuary cities) deemed insufficiently cooperative with the administration’s immigration agenda. We are concerned this money could be used for mass enforcement actions, such as we’ve seen under Trump in Minnesota, and that it could be used for paramilitary mobilizations during elections.

CHN Opposes Senate Amendment That Threatens Service Providers and Localities

At a time when so many in communities across the country are struggling with rising costs of living, the Coalition on Human Needs opposed an amendment that would pave the way for administration’s Department of Justice to use resources for so-called “fraud prevention” that could make it harder for families to access basic needs programs by attacking service providers and localities.

CHN Opposes H.R. 7726 and H.R. 8872, Instead Congress Should Protect and Strengthen Child Care and TANF

CHN sent this letter to House offices opposing H.R. 7726 and H.R. 8872, the Child Care and TANF bills on the floor. At a time when so many in communities across the country are struggling with rising costs of living, Congress should be protecting and strengthening child care, cash assistance intended for low-income families, and other basic needs programs, not exacerbating the crises families are facing.

The Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) has selected advocate, community leader, and former White House lawyer Christopher Kang as its next executive director. Kang, who will be the first person of color to lead the coalition, joins CHN as it prepares to celebrate its 45th anniversary this year.
